July 16 2025 - Gary Mollohan

Volvo Cars has revealed plans to add its globally best-selling XC60 mid-size SUV to the manufacturing lineup at its Ridgeville plant, located near Charleston, South Carolina. This cutting-edge facility, which already produces the fully electric flagship EX90, is slated to begin XC60 assembly in late 2026.

A Top Performer
The XC60 continues to dominate Volvo’s global sales and remains the brand’s top choice among American consumers. In the first half of 2025 alone, US sales surged nearly 23%, underscoring the model’s strong demand.

Built for Innovation
Established in 2015, the Ridgeville plant marked Volvo’s first foray into US manufacturing. Over the past decade, it has grown into a high-capacity hub, assembling the electric EX90 and the Polestar 3, while boasting versatile capabilities across multiple platforms and powertrains.

Electrifying Variety
With production of the XC60 soon to include both mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, Volvo Cars is broadening its lineup for American drivers. The EX90 will continue rolling off the line for those seeking a spacious, fully electric SUV—giving customers even more options in one dynamic location.
